Hand Surgery
Hand surgery is a branch dealing with diseases and treatment of the upper extremity, extending from the shoulder to the fingertips. Our hands are critically important for meeting basic needs and being productive individuals. Many issues that impair hand function, primarily injuries, significantly affect our lives.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
A condition caused by compression of the median nerve, which plays an important role in finger movement and sensation, at the wrist level. It is the most common nerve compression disorder.
Initial symptoms usually include hand weakness, easy fatigue and tingling especially in the first three fingers. Pain intensifies over time and numbness begins. Non-surgical methods are tried first; surgery is performed when no response is obtained.
Dupuytren Contracture
A disease caused by thickening of the fascia layer under the skin, usually in the palm. Onset is insidious, beginning with painless swellings in the palm especially at the 4th and 5th finger level. The swellings gradually increase and form a cord-like thickening. Opening the finger becomes increasingly difficult. Treatment is surgical before the disease progresses.
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
Pain, swelling, numbness and strength loss caused by compression or pressure on the ulnar nerve at the elbow level. When conservative treatment fails, surgery is performed.
Ganglion (Cystic Hygroma)
Benign cystic tumors filled with gel-like fluid arising from joint capsules, tendons or tendon sheaths. The most common benign tumor in the hand. Must be completely removed surgically down to its origin.
De Quervain Tenosynovitis
Pain and sensitivity caused by thickening and hardening in the tunnel where the tendons moving the thumb pass through the wrist. If symptoms persist or worsen, surgical opening of the tunnel compressing the tendons is performed.
Finger, Hand and Arm Injuries
Covers all types of injuries from various causes including work accidents, home accidents, traffic accidents and sports injuries. Injuries can range from simple skin cuts to tendon cuts, nerve cuts, vessel cuts, bone fractures, and partial or complete finger amputations.
Microsurgery
Microsurgery is a surgical technique using an operating microscope or special glasses to magnify the surgical field. This enables surgical treatment of structures like nerves and vessels that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Microsurgery is used in vessel and nerve repairs and vascularized tissue transfers from one body region to another.
Repair of injured limbs and reattachment of severed parts resulting from rapidly increasing work accidents, traffic accidents, glass cuts, falls or similar accidents are possible with microsurgical methods.
