Breast Lift Surgery
Breast lift surgery is performed to restore sagging breasts to an aesthetic and healthy appearance. Sagging is caused by factors such as gravity, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, aging and improper bra use.
The medical term for breasts being lower than their ideal position is ptosis. In ptosis, breasts sag as they lose internal volume or the skin becomes excessively loose.
The procedure of repositioning the nipple and breast tissue to their proper position without changing breast volume is called mastopexy.
Who is a Candidate?
Any woman over 18 who is bothered by breast sagging and has no medical issues can undergo breast lift surgery, following detailed examination and tests.
For patients with normal breast size, only a lift is performed. For women with small breasts (A cup), a silicone implant may be placed during surgery. Fat injection is also an option for those who prefer not to use implants.
Will There Be Scars?
Although mastopexy is performed for aesthetic concerns, in some cases scars similar to breast reduction may remain. The determining factor is how far the nipple has descended and how much the lower breast tissue has sagged.
If the nipple is 2-3 cm below its ideal position and lower pole ptosis is moderate, a ‘periareolar mastopexy’ can be performed without visible scars. However, if both the nipple and breast tissue have significant sagging, a vertical scar from the nipple downward is unavoidable.
Surgical Process
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2.5 hours. Drains are placed to prevent blood accumulation. A special shaping bra is applied after surgery. You may be discharged the same day or stay one night.
You can shower on the 3rd day and your dressing is renewed. Stitches are self-dissolving and hidden. The bra should be worn for 3-6 weeks. You can return to daily life after one week.
Combined Procedures
In some cases, both volume loss and sagging may be present. In such cases, breast augmentation and breast lift procedures can be combined (augmentation mastopexy).
